If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then maybe it’s sometimes a limitation of a true beauty’s reflection.
A beholder gets to choose what they feel in that moment is beautiful to them... but if they don’t have a heart to see true beauty in the moment, it doesn’t make anything less beautiful... it simply means they don’t have a clue as to what is really beautiful.
A common saying is "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," which means beauty doesn't exist on its own but is created by observers.
That’s not always necessarily true. Beauty can most definitely exist on its own, whether it is seen or unseen. Although, “If beauty is in the eye of the beholder” then the person who is observing gets to decide what is beautiful, but a beholder is also somebody who is “paying attention”.
It is, however, a privilege for us to choose what we feel is beautiful. Society tells us everyday how to look, how to feel, how to think. “Dress like this and you’ll be beautiful... Buy this and you’ll be beautiful... Act like this and you’ll be beautiful...” But we must think for ourselves and not be swayed for meaning, based on what the world tells us we need in order to be satisfied.
How beautiful is it though, in itself, that we get to choose?
A Beautiful Decision
“How beautiful is it then, in itself, that we get to choose what we feel is beautiful?”
So, when we are choosing the beautiful things that stand out to us the most in this life, may they be things that are virtuous, joyful, breathtaking, and kind. May it be a view from the mountains that cause us to whisper. May it be smiling faces of somebody you love painted in your mind as a memory.
Beauty is Interchangeable
“Being beautiful is ever changing, but I think it means being happy, intelligent, confident, and free..”
Although, it’s interchangeable. We might be having a really bad day when we don’t feel like any of those things. But the good news is that our beauty isn’t a definitive of descriptive words... because remember... “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”. So who is your beholder?
Is it you? Is it your spouse? Is it your family? Your friends? Is it the scale? Is it your bank account?
Some of these can be a measure for good, or some may use these as a measure for your destruction.
Do your very best to surround yourself with people who will empower you and appreciate your value. There’s no time for anything else.
Beauty is natural, or beauty is something we learn. We can choose beautiful things for our heart's desires.
Choose wisely... and remember, you’re beautiful.
